Google's Pixel 9 could arrive with a sophisticated 'Pixie' AI assistant

The latest news report from The Information shows that Google's forthcoming Pixel 9 smartphone will be equipped with Pixie, the newest Android AI assistant from the tech behemoth. Using Gemini large language model (LLM), this innovative virtual helper has evolved to perform elaborate and varied undertakings like directing users towards local stores where they can procure merchandise that was snapped by their own cell phone camera.

The forthcoming assistant from Google will solely be accessible on Pixel devices, and it's anticipated to make the most of information obtained from extensively used products such as Gmail and Maps. This approach is set to enhance the current Google Assistant by providing personalized experiences for users thus making it more advanced than before. The offering expectedly differs significantly from Bard that was previewed at Made By Google in October 2019.

Google has quickly revised its AI strategy after facing competition from OpenAI, as reported. To counter GPT-4, Google recently introduced Gemini - an advanced model that they claim to be "the most capable." Furthermore, Nano aims to include this technology onto Android devices and facilitate offline capabilities such as summarizing communication and phone calls.

To repeat, Gemini is a recently launched integrated AI system that doesn't need stacked models (even though some parts of Google’s demonstration were allegedly not real). This capability should allow it to thoroughly interpret and assess various kinds of inputs right from the start with more effectiveness than existing multimodal models. When combined with Pixie powered by Gemini, it could develop into an exceptionally advanced personal assistant when compared to Google Assistant. Furthermore, Bacd - the chatbot for Google's AI - will be driven by Gemini in future endeavors.

Like previous Google products, understanding the various AI offerings can be complicated for consumers. Currently available are Pixie, Bard, Gemini Nano (for smartphones), and Gemini Pro (for Chrome and API calls). Additionally in 2024, a new product called Gemini Ultra will launch. In comparison to OpenAI's approach of keeping things simple with GPT-4 as their LLM along with ChatGPT serving as the chat assistant and DALL-E responsible for image generation - most users are familiar with these tools; however, Google has created challenges again by offering an extensive line-up of products that lack clarity.
