Intel Arc iGPU on Meteor Lake CPUs Deliver Competitive Gaming Performance Against AMD RDNA 3 iGPUs

The entry-level discrete GPU market faces a challenge from Intel as they regain competitiveness in the iGPU space with their new offerings, Arc Alchemist and RDNA 3.

Ever since AMD introduced its APUs with integrated graphics, Intel has been trailing behind in the iGPU space. The Vega iGPU family further solidified AMD's dominance and RDNA allowed them to enter new areas such as Mini PCs and handheld devices which boasted superior graphics performance. Conversely, Intel had fallen short in their Iris Xe solutions for a while but that is set to change thanks to the addition of Arc iGPUs into their Core Ultra lineup today.

The latest processors from Chipzilla, the Intel Core Ultra "Meteor Lake" CPUs, are equipped with Arc Alchemist iGPUs codenamed as "Xe-LPG". There are three configurations of these GPUs available: 8 Xe-Cores, 7 Xe-Cores & 4 Xe-Cores. They can boost up to a maximum frequency of 2350 MHz (Core Ultra9-185H) and exhibit remarkable performance when coupled with high-bandwidth memory such as LPDDR5X. These iGPUs support DX12 Ultimate, AV1 and even come with advanced features like Xess (DP4a). In essence, they represent an integral component that contributes significantly to the overall functioning powerofthese cutting-edgeprocessors.

In this article, we will focus on gaming benchmarks for the Intel Arc iGPU and provide an analysis based specifically on these tests. Our benchmark results come from Golden Pig Upgrade (Bilibili) who conducted extensive testing using both Core Ultra 7 155H (8 Xe-Cores) and Core Ultra 5 125H (7 Xe-Core) CPUs across various games at a resolution of1080p. The tests have been performed under different settings such as High & Low modes which are provided in detail below:

The Intel Arc and AMD RDNA 3 iGPUs seem to be equally competitive as both configurations won four games each at low 1080p.
